Why it matters so much
When someone searches for a local service, Google shows a map and three business listings before almost anything else. Those three spots, the map pack, capture most of the calls and visits. Your Google Business Profile is what decides whether you appear there.
Get the basics perfect
Most profiles lose out on the simple things. Make sure all of these are complete and accurate:
- The single most accurate primary category, plus relevant secondary ones
- Exact name, address and phone that match your website
- Correct opening hours, including bank holidays
- A genuine, keyword aware business description
- Real, recent photos of your work, team and premises
- Every service and product listed out
Build reviews and reply to them
Reviews are a major ranking factor and a huge trust signal. Ask happy customers consistently, make it easy with a direct review link, and reply to every review, good or bad. Recency and your responses both count.
Use posts and keep it active
Profiles that stay active tend to perform better. Post offers, news and updates, answer questions, and keep everything current. An abandoned profile slips down while an active one climbs.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not keyword stuff your business name, use a fake or virtual address, or let your details drift out of date. These can get your listing suspended or quietly buried. Honest, complete and active wins.
